Independent Canadian Publishing
Stories worth carrying.
Gates End is an independent Canadian publisher built around curiosity, lived experience, and the belief that some stories deserve the time it takes to tell them properly.
We publish books that ask why, look beneath the surface, and leave something with the reader after the last page is turned.
Our First Title
The Things We Choose to Carry
Love, loss, family, and the quiet cost of doing what’s right.
A life can contain many journeys. The harder question is what remains with us after each one ends.
The Things We Choose to Carry moves through immigration, family, work, love, separation, grief, motorcycles, aircraft, boats, business, unexpected kindness, and the people and animals who remain important long after circumstances change.
This is not a memoir about having all the answers. It is about looking closely at what happened, what it meant, and what a person continues to carry when the moment itself is gone.

Why Gates End
Some stories begin at the end of the road.
Gates End grew from the experience of bringing one book into the world carefully and independently.
Its name reflects something larger than a publishing imprint: the idea that arriving at what appears to be an ending can reveal another way forward.
Gates End exists to publish work with something genuine to say—books grounded in experience, shaped by curiosity, and willing to ask questions whose answers are not always simple.
From the Publisher
“The story moves through decades and places, but its central question is simple: what do we keep carrying, and why?”
